We believe that Harworth is exactly the warm and welcoming district of Bassetlaw that you’ll want to reside in. What was originally a mining town now boasts modern amenities, a bustling community and perfectly positioned transport links. Below are a few interesting facts and figures you may not already know:
Population: Harworth and Bircotes (the civil parish) was found to have a population of 7,948 in the 2011 Census
Notable People: Tom Simpson (1937–1967), one of Britain’s greatest road racing cyclist – World Champion in 1965. A small museum dedicated to his achievements (opened in August 2001) can be found in the Harworth and Bircotes sports and social club.
Fun Fact: The town’s name is from Old English har “grey”

It’s an exciting time to live in Harworth, as the community continues to grow so do the local amenities available. Harworth has a number of retail facilities in its main shopping area along Scrooby Road (within walking distance to Well Hill Drive), this includes two major supermarket stores, a number of independent stores & a petrol station. Harworth have been fortunate to retain the services of a local Library and this is situated on Scrooby Road.
If you enjoy being sociable then you’ll enjoy the selection of establishments Harworth has to offer. If you’re looking to venture out then you can enjoy a drink and socialise in the surrounding towns, which are just a short taxi or bus journey away.
Harworth benefits from great leisure amenities; there are local leisure centres that have swimming pools, gyms & sports groups that cater for all ages. There is a wealth of wildlife at nearby Plumtree Park and the Yorkshire Wildlife Park. These natural beauty spots are perfect for days out, long leisurely walks, cycling and other family activities.
Going to school in Harworth
The location to which Well Hill Drive stands is within walking distance to both primary and secondary schooling. All the schools in the local area achieved ‘good’ in their current Ofsted ratings. A great choice of Secondary schools is available within Doncaster and the options for further education are attractive with Sheffield & Nottingham within easy commuting reach. There are also provisions for the tiny ones too with a Preschool and Sure Start within the town.
Transport Links
Commuting to and from Harworth couldn’t be easier as the A1 motorway network is only a 5 minute drive away giving links to the M1 & M18. This provides great access to South Yorkshire, Nottinghamshire & the M1 links. Sheffield is just 30 minutes drive away and the city of Nottingham is just 1 hour’s drive away. There is also the towns of Doncaster and Retford which have railway links to London within 2 hours.
